What does gauge mean?
The metal I use for earrings comes in wires of varying thickness, or "gauge". The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire and the harder it is to work with. 

For my earring hooks, I normally use 18 gauge (unless otherwise noted) which is one gauge thicker than the average earring hook. This will not stretch out your ear. I perfer using a thicker gauge because it looks better and wears longer. 

You will notice some of my designs are offered in a variety of gauges: 
  • 18 gauge, which is "average".
  • 16 gauge, which is a little thicker but you can still get them through the average ear hole with a little work.
  • 14 gauge, for which you would have to wear 16 gauge for a while before trying to put them in.
  • 12 gauge, which looks great and slightly stretches out your ears, but you can still wear your smaller gauge earrings.
